The Free Press Society’s Sappho Award 2011, to be awarded to Rachel Ehrenfeld, Ph.D.
On April 2nd, 2011, The Free Press Society will be honouring Rachel Ehrenfeld with the Sappho Award to recognize her contributions to the preservation of free speech.
The Sappho Award is a specific journalistic prize awarded by the editors of our internet magazine Sappho.dk. Sappho – the Greek poetess from the sixth century B.C. – is depicted in our logo. Plato characterised her as the tenth muse, and Sappho has adopted her as the Muse of Free Speech.
Rachel Ehrenfeld, Ph.D.
Dr. Rachel Ehrenfeld is the Director of the American Centre for Democracy (ACD). A terrorist financing scholar and prominent free speech advocate, her leadership in the fight against “libel tourism” led to the passage of anti-libel tourism laws in seven states in the U.S. and the enactment of the federal SPEECH Act, signed into law in August 2010.
Dr. Ehrenfeld is also an expert on economic warfare, combating terror finance, narcoterrorism, Islamic banking, and government corruption. Her work focuses on exposing economic warfare waged against the United States and the West, and the challenges to freedom, democracy and capitalism posed by radical Islam and opposing international regimes. She is the author of Funding Evil; How Terrorism is Financed – and How to Stop It (BonusBooks, 2003, 2005); Evil Money – Encounters Along the Money Trail (HarperCollins, 1992, SPI, 1994) and Narco-Terrorism(Basic Books, 1990, 1992). An updated version of Funding Evil, should be available soon. Dr. Ehrenfeld is currently working on a new book - “The Muslim Brotherhood, Inc.”
Her articles have appeared in publications including Forbes; the Guardian; The New York Times; Los Angeles Times; The Wall Street Journal; Huffington Post, and many others, including major blogs,. She appears frequently on national and international radio and TV.
Dr. Ehrenfeld was a visiting scholar at the Columbia University Institute of War and Peace Studies, a research scholar at New York University’s School of Law, a fellow at Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and Jesus College at Cambridge University. Ehrenfeld’s Ph.D. in Criminology is from the Hebrew University School of Law.
